My journalistic endeavors began at the Ardmore Junior High School Gavel, a two-page newspaper we typed on purple mimeograph sheets and handed out in homeroom.

Since then, my features, profiles, essays and reviews have appeared in magazines and newspapers including Working Mother, O, the Oprah Magazine, Redbook, Health, OUT, the Journal of the American Medical Association and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

I have written extensively about the changing nature of the family, covering issues of adoption, foster care, assisted reproduction and same-sex parenting. But curiosity (or editorial whim) have led me to some even stranger places: interviews with urban chicken farmers, tattoo artists, professional childproofers and dream researchers.

Stories about family, education, health, culture, religion and community snag my interest; I also have a soft spot for the local, the irreverent and the quirky.
